2022 Chevrolet Camaro Shock And Steel Special Edition Adds Rapid Blue

The 2022 Chevrolet Camaro will solider on relatively unchanged from 2021, with a few exceptions. Of which, MC&T has continued to shed light on what customers can expect, such as copper-free performance brakes, and a new Design Package 3 that more or less replaces the Wild Cherry Design Package from 2021. The latest tweak for the 2022 model year, according to the Camaro’s official dealer order guide, is the addition of Rapid Blue exterior hue for the Shock and Steel Special Edition.

Opening up the color palette for the Camaro Shock and Steel Special Edition continues a trend that was observed in 2021, from 2020. In 2020, Chevrolet only offered the Shock and Steel package in two exterior paint colors: Shock and Satin Steel. These colors were obviously the namesake of the package, but for 2021, buyers had the choice to spec their Chevrolet Camaro Shock and Steel Edition muscle car in either black or white, as well. For the 2022 Camaro, it’s now all four of these colors, plus Rapid Blue.

The 2022 Chevrolet Camaro Shock and Steel Special Edition (RPO code B2E) will vary in its appearance depending on the exterior color it’s ordered with. For instance, with Rapid Blue, the center stripe is painted Silver instead of Carbon Flash. The stripe is colored Shock yellow when the exterior choice is black, and is Satin Steel Metallic when the package is ordered with Summit White. Otherwise, the Shock and Steel package features a black fuel door with a visible carbon fiber insert accessory from the 650 hp Camaro ZL1, yellow painted calipers, black sueded knee pads, a carbon fiber instrument panel molding, and premium carpet floor mats. Completing the look is a set of 20-inch blade design aluminum wheels.

The 2022 Chevrolet Camaro Shock and Steel Special Edition includes everything in the popular RS package, and is available on 2LT, 3LT and 2SS coupe and convertible trims. It’s not available on the base 1LS trim, the popular LT1 trim, the 1SS trim, nor the range-topping ZL1. It also can’t be paired with the 1LE performance package. Oddly, the package cannot be paired with copper-free performance brakes, which could limit its availability in People’s Liberated Republic of California.

The sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro is expected to live on until 2023. Original plans for the seventh-generation Camaro were scrapped, as were the plans for a sixth-generation Camaro Z/28 and its unique 6.6L small block V8 engine. MC&T exclusively reported on this news back in the summer of 2019.
