2022 Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 Confirmed In Official Teaser Video

MC&T has been trickling details of the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 well, well before the official channels were ready to open up. But today, Chevy breaks the silence with a quick, 15-second teaser video. The video, which you can see below, depicts the ZR2 getting nice and dirty in a muddy field, layered over with the rumble of a small block V8 – the 6.2L L87 to be sure.

While the teaser video had them covered in mud, the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 is expected to feature a set of the latest Multimatic DSSV dampers that help provide maximum control at both low and high speed events, such as rock crawling and baja racing, respectively. The Silverado ZR2 will also feature superior approach and departure angles from the Silverado Trail Boss. This is due to the elimination of a front air dam, and bumper cutouts for more tire contact. In other words, pretty much everything you see on today’s Chevrolet Colorado ZR2, except in a full-sized, V8-powered package. MC&T first reported on these details last year.

The 2022 model year – or 2022i model year if you prefer to be more accurate – Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 is going to be a unique offering in the now hotly-contested off-road pickup truck segment. Why? Because its off-road capabilities are expected to exceed most of the specs from the Ford F-150 Tremor and Ram 1500 Rebel. However, it won’t have anything under the hood akin to the fire-breathing Hellcat V8 found in the Ram 1500 TRX, nor will it have the 510 lb-ft of torque found in the EcoBoost V6 of the 2021 F-150 Raptor. And, as MC&T has reported time and again, there are no plans for General Motors to utilize any of its supercharged V8 engines for the Chevrolet Silverado ZR2.

However, something in the works with American Expedition Vehicles may be another story…
