2022 Ford Maverick Will Not Be Sold In Europe Despite Its Appeal

Earlier this week Ford graced us with the 2022 Maverick unibody pickup truck. The compact hybrid truck will go on sale this fall, and we can’t wait. As the smallest, most fuel efficient, and most affordable new truck on the market, the Maverick is expected to do well. So well, in fact, that suppliers are scaling for roughly 110,000 unit sales annually. But none of those sales are expected to represent the European Union.

2022 Ford Maverick Excluded From European Market

According to Automotive News Europe, the Europeans will unfortunately have to watch the Maverick’s performance from a distance. While the 2022 Ford Maverick, especially the Maverick Hybrid, seems like the perfect truck for the European market, overall market demand for pickup trucks has fallen heavily in the region.

Nissan has no plans to continue production of the Navara once its Barcelona plant shuts down at the end of this year. Even Mercedes couldn’t justify continuing production of its X-class pick-up truck and canceled the model last year after only three years on the market.

Yet the Ford Ranger is up 44 percent. And the American-based automaker sells the coveted Ford Ranger Raptor with a diesel engine in the European Union, something that remains off-limits to North American market customers.

Future Ford Trucks

The 2022 Ford Maverick is but one model that’s part of a new wave of Ford Truck products. Following this launch, the next-generation Ford Ranger will debut for the 2023 model year, which will be built alongside the Volkswagen Amarok at the Ford Michigan Assembly plant in Wayne, MI alongside the Ford Bronco. America will also get the next-generation Ford Ranger Raptor, which will likely feature a 3.0L EcoBoost twin-turbo V6, shared with the upcoming Bronco Raptor, or Warthog. A Ford Bronco pickup truck is also rumored.

On the larger side of things, a refreshed Ford Super Duty lineup is expected to come around by the 2024 model year.
