2023 Jeep Wagoneer, Grand Wagoneer L Debut W/ Class-Leading Specs

Jeep’s lineup of luxury SUVs is literally growing, with new long-wheelbase Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L models. At the same time, these behemoths forgo the Hemi V8 engine in favor of twin-turbocharged Hurricane straight-six power. The L obviously stands for Long Wheelbase, and in this case, that means an extra 7 inches (178 mm) added in the middle for a 130 inch (3,302 mm) wheelbase, and makes up the majority of the Wagoneer L’s new 12-inch (305 mm) longer overall length for a total of 226.7 inches (5,758 mm). The Wagoneer and Wagoneer L variants also add a new Carbide trim level.

The extra space between the wheels translates to more room in the cabin, while the extra overall length adds more cargo volume behind the third seat row. There’s now 15.8 cubic feet more cargo volume than the standard-wheelbase model, accounting for a total of 42.1 cubic feet (1,192 liters) in the Wagoneer and 44.2 (1,252 liters) for the Grand Wagoneer. There’s also a small storage compartment in the third row with a capacity of 0.12 cubic feet (3.6 liters).

The Jeep Wagoneer L still fulfills the role of Sport Utility Vehicle, and Jeep says that the vehicle can fit a full 4′ x 8′ sheet of plywood with the seats folded down. We’d love to see one of these things at Home Depot. The extra length also means that the models are significantly heavier, 200 pounds (91 kg) in fact, for a total of 6,704 pounds(3,041 kg).

As mentioned, the 2023 Jeep Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L feature the new Stellantis’ new 3.0L Hurricane twin-turbo straight-six, in both standard and high output flavors. The standard output variant of the engine will be available on the Wagoneer L, producing 420 horsepower and 468 lb-ft of torque. Meanwhile, Grand Wagoneer L models will receive the high-output version of the engine, which pumps out 510 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque. According to Jeep, both engines boast a one to two mpg combined rating improvement over the existing V8 engine options.

In addition to the L models, Jeep will also produce a limited run of regular-wheelbase Grand Wagoneers with the 510 horsepower Hurricane engine. Both extended-wheelbase models will be on sale in the second half of 2022, with pricing to be announced close to their arrival dates.

The supersized Jeeps will go up against the big macs of the competition, such as the Cadillac Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Suburban, GMC Yukon XL, Ford Expedition Max, and Lincoln Navigator L. Pricing on these new variants will be revealed at a later date.
