2024 GMC Canyon AT4X To Debut This Summer

General Motors plans on debuting its next-generation midsize trucks for the 2024 model year, and today we get our first look at what’s to come. The 2024 GMC Canyon will officially add the AT4X trim level, which stands to be a mechanical equivalent to the next-generation 2024 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2. Look for the next-generation, 31XX-2 Canyon to debut sometime this summer.

2024 GMC Canyon AT4X Teaser Photo Clues And Hints

This 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X teaser photo gives us more than a few confirmations. In it we see rock sliders, 17-inch beadlock-capable wheels wrapped around 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires, a fender reflector like we see on the much larger Sierra HD, pronounced ‘AT4X‘ badging, and familiar placements of the fuel door, as well as what looks to be carryover door handles. The 31XX-2 platform isn’t a clean-slate design, after all. Rather, it’s an evolved form of what we see with today’s 31XX platform that underpins today’s GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Colorado. Over at Ford, the next-generation Mustang is undergoing a similar revision, with the S650 platform being an evolution of today’s S550 platform. MC&T first disclosed details of the 2024 GMC Canyon back in 2019.

What the teaser photo doesn’t show us are a few details that we’ve previously reported on. The first is that the 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X will feature Multimatic DSSV dampers, which were teased on the Canyon AT4X overlanding concept last year. The engine of choice for the new Canyon as well as the Colorado will be a variation of the 2.7L L3B turbocharged four-cylinder engine we see in the larger Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. The interior the new GM midsize trucks, meanwhile, are expected to share similarities with what we see with the updated Silverado and Sierra, as well, with a larger, horizontally oriented touch screen and a familiar button/knob layout. Stay tuned for more.
