A 500 Mile, Body On Frame Electric Truck

At one point, just before the PSA-FCA merger to form Stellantis, it sounded like the Ram brand didn’t have an electric pickup truck in the works. Then came the GMC Hummer EV. Then came the Ford F-150 Lightning. Then cam the Chevrolet Silverado EV. Eventually, Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares broke the silence, claiming an electrified Ram truck was imminent. Today, we learn a bit more, as the 2024 Ram 1500 BEV (battery electric vehicle) was teased during Stellantis EV Day.

2024 Ram 1500 BEV: First Details

This 2024 Ram 1500 BEV is likely riding on what Stellantis is calling the STLA Frame architecture, one of four new battery electric vehicle platforms. The frame is briefly pictured in the video above, holstering a floor of batteries between the rails. Like the Ford F-150 Lightning, the platform of the STLA Frame will allow the Ram 1500 EV to maintain its body-on-frame architecture, which is superior to unibody structures for standard-issue truck work such as towing and hauling. Stellantis claims that the battery technology and the platform will be good enough for 200 kWh and 500 miles of range, with capabilities of charging up to 20 miles per minute.

The 2024 Ram 1500 BEV looks to deliver on on the power, performance and capability. Three things that truck customers are unwilling to trade in when it comes to switching to electric. Among other customer-driven features will be onboard power, aka a generator, as seen at the 2:55 mark of the video. The teaser photo of the electric Ram pickup appears as well, which we went ahead and altered for a better idea of the truck’s design. The watermarked photo is at the top of the article.

Future Plans For Ram

That’s not all. Ram has something in the works called the REPB truck, or “Range Electric Paradigm Breaker” truck. The project is very locked down at the moment, but judging by its name, there’s a strong likelihood that the Ram REPB truck has something to do with the potential of solid state batteries, as well as reduced ownership costs.

The Ram brand plans on expanding its electric vehicle offerings into a full portfolio of pickup trucks and commercial work vehicles. And by late 2021, Ram will even debut a hydrogen fuel-cell powered ProMaster van. In the photo below, brand frontman Mike Koval can be seen standing in front of a quintet of veiled vehicles that are in store for us all.

Stay tuned for more.
