Can you guess what these Sun Bingo limericks are about?

THERE once was a site called Sun Bingo, whose players were all down with the lingo. The site was lots of fun, for each and every one, that excellent site called Sun Bingo.

Limericks are poems of five lines that follow an AABBA rhyming pattern.

They usually start “There once was a…” and tell an absurd little story.

Limerick Day is celebrated on 12th May as this was Edward Lear’s birthday.

Lear is credited with making limericks famous when he published 117 such poems in A Book of Nonsense in 1846.

Although, he published it under the name Derry Down Derry.

The term “limerick” has been linked to the city and county in Ireland of the same name.

There are also plenty of references to places in Ireland in the limericks, including Dundalk, Kilkenny, Dunluce and Kildare.

However, Lear referred to them as “nonsenses” or “Old Persons”.

You’ve almost certainly heard a limerick before. Any fan of Bridget Jones’s Diary might recall what Daniel Cleaver had to say about a young woman from Ealing…

A more family-friendly common limerick is Hickory, dickory, dock.

Sun Bingo limericks

Sun Bingo has been inspired by Edward Lear, and we’ve written a few of our own limericks!

They are about slots, slingos and bingo rooms that can be found on our site… but can you guess which ones we are describing?

There once was a slot you could play,
With 20 winning lines that would pay,
Match the star signs to win,
Give this game a spin,
Help keep the zodiac signs at bay.

Whose games brought joy in a zoom,
Open only on Sundays,
Which makes them the fun days,
You might even hear a vroom vroom!

There once was a fun slingo game,
With a slightly fishy sounding name,
As the fishing lines complete,
The more starfish you’ll meet,
And a bigger winnings pot you can claim.
