Discovery Season 4 Release Date Revealed For November

Paramount announces that Star Trek: Discovery season 4 will officially premiere on November 18, 2021, just in time for the holiday season.

Paramount+ has announced that Star Trek: Discovery season 4 will premiere in November. Originally premiering in 2019 as one of the flagship series of the then-new streaming service, CBS All Access, Star Trek: Discovery was the first new Star Trek series on the air in fourteen years after Star Trek: Enterprise wrapped in 2005. Star Trek: Discovery ran its first three seasons on CBS All Access, with the streaming service eventually rebranding itself Paramount+ shortly after season 3 wrapped, setting up season 4 to premiere on Paramount+.

Star Trek: Discovery season 3 ended on January 7, 2021, with Michael Burnham (Soneque Martin-Green) finally becoming Captain of the U.S.S. Discovery. Season 4 was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with the writers working from home and production delayed. Little is known about the plot of the upcoming season except that it will feature a non-living villain. The series is already in development on season 5 with the news that producer Alex Kurtzman extended his contract with CBS.

As Star Trek celebrated its 55th anniversary during Star Trek Day, Paramount+ confirmed that Star Trek: Discovery season 4 will premiere on the streaming service on November 18, 2021. Paramount did not confirm how many episodes the new season would be. The press release for season 4 hinted that the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery will encounter a foe unlike anything they have ever faced and the federation and non-federation worlds will have to come together. Paramount’s official press release for the series can be read below:

Sept. 8, 2021 – Paramount+, the streaming service from ViacomCBS, today revealed that season four of its hit original series STAR TREK: DISCOVERY will premiere on Thursday, Nov. 18, exclusively for Paramount+ subscribers in the U.S. The announcement was made during the STAR TREK: DISCOVERY panel that took place at today’s global live-streamed Star Trek Day celebration. The date was revealed following a sneak peek clip from the upcoming fourth season, introduced virtually by series star Sonequa Martin-Green.

Season four of STAR TREK: DISCOVERY finds Captain Burnham and the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery facing a threat unlike any they’ve ever encountered. With Federation and non-Federation worlds alike feeling the impact, they must confront the unknown and work together to ensure a hopeful future for all.

STAR TREK: DISCOVERY season four cast members include Sonequa Martin-Green (Captain Michael Burnham), Doug Jones (Saru), Anthony Rapp (Paul Stamets), Mary Wiseman (Sylvia Tilly), Wilson Cruz (Dr. Hugh Culber), David Ajala (Cleveland “Book” Booker) and Blu del Barrio (Adira).

STAR TREK: DISCOVERY streams exclusively on Paramount+ in the U.S., and the series is distributed concurrently by ViacomCBS Global Distribution Group on Netflix in 190 countries and in Canada on Bell Media’s CTV Sci-Fi Channel and streams on Crave. The series is produced by CBS Studios in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment.

This news makes Star Trek: Discovery one of many high-profile television series premiering around the holiday season. Two days before Star Trek: Discovery premieres, The Flash will start its five-week crossover event on The CW, which will carry the series through until the holiday break. Hawkeye will premiere on Disney+ six days after Star Trek: Discovery premieres, a day before Thanksgiving. Then in December, Disney will premiere The Book of Boba Fett, which benefited both seasons of The Mandalorian.

November is a fitting release date for Star Trek: Discovery season 4. Star Trek: Generations and Star Trek: First Contact both premiered in theaters in November. Star Trek: Generations opening date happened to be November 18, 1994, making the premiere of Star Trek: Discovery season 4 fall on the film’s 27th anniversary. J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek was released on home video on November 17, 2009, and last season’s legacy centric episode of Star Trek: Discovery, “Unification” premiered on Thanksgiving Day 2020. Alongside the premiere of Star Trek: Prodigy in October, there is plenty of Star Trek for fans on Paramount+ this year.
