Eagles HC Nick Sirianni enters league COVID protocol

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni has become the latest HC to coach his team remotely as he has entered the NFL’s health and safety protocol on Wednesday following a positive COVID-19 test.

Sirianni appeared to be in pretty good spirits when he spoke to the media via Zoom following the news. The first-year head coach said he got tested after experiencing symptoms but is already feeling better and plans on coaching remotely in a “business as usual” format.

Sirianni said he hopes to clear protocol in time to coach Sunday’s post-Christmas game against the visiting New York Giants. Should he not be cleared for Sunday, passing game coordinator Kevin Patullo is expected to take over head-coaching duties with assistance from offensive coordinator Shane Steichen.

Sirianni is the second NFL head coach to test positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, with fellow first-year head coach Robert Saleh of the New York Jets entering the protocol earlier in the day. Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski had to miss Monday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders because of a positive test, while New Orleans Saints HC Sean Peyton is currently in his second stint of quarantine.
