Electric Ford Bronco SUV Teased By CEO Jim Farley

The Ford Bronco still isn’t in the hands of customers yet, but if we focus on the long game, the little delays here and there will fade out focus from the big picture. Just as well, Ford Motor Company is most certainly charting the course of this vehicle well into the future. Of course, with various authorities pushing everybody into electrification, that likely means that there would have to be an electric Ford Bronco of some sort. And, on Twitter, Ford CEO Jim Farley teased an EV option for the Bronco.

Electric Truck And SUV Offerings: The Next Big Thing?

The off-road truck and SUV scene has exploded in popularity over the past few years, but most of the segment’s flagship vehicles feature traditional powertrains. Take the twin-turbo V6-powered Ford F-150 Raptor, for example. Or the optional diesel engine in the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2, or the Hellcat-powered Ram TRX. However, that seems to be changing. Look no further than electric entries launching soon, such as the Rivian R1S and R1T, the upcoming Hummer EV family, as well as the Jeep Wrangler 4xe hybrid and the recently revealed Magneto electric Wrangler concept. With regards to an electric Ford Bronco, it just seems inevitable at this point, but unclear as to when exactly the SUV will reveal itself.

The 2021 Ford Bronco will launch with a standard 2.3L EcoBoost turbo four cylinder engine that will produce a punchy 300 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque with premium fuel. Opt for the 2.7L EcoBoost V6 shared with the 2021 F-150, and the Bronco will deliver 330 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque with premium fuel. It should be noted that both engines can run on 87 octane, but output is slightly lowered. The powertrains are both paired with a ten-speed automatic, while the 2.3L can be had with a manual transmission, as well.
