Fortnite has announced its next big installment in the Rift Tour will be a series of concerts featuring Ariana Grande, running from August 6-8.
Battle royale Fortnite has revealed the next big concert that will be coming to the Rift Tour: pop star Ariana Grande. Grande follows past acts such as Travis Scott, Marshmello, and Deadmau5, who all performed in-game concerts in the past. As was the case in these previous events, players will be able to earn in-game loot by participating.
Although Fortnite made its name as the ubiquitous battle royale shooter, in recent years it has begun to shift towards more peaceful events. In addition to the aforementioned concerts, Fortnite has turned into a place where movie trailers are shown and events have featured crossovers with some of the biggest names in pop culture. Most recently, Fortnite collaborated with the upcoming movie Suicide Squad and debuted the movie’s character Bloodsport in the game. This marked another installment in Epic Games’ long-standing collaboration with DC, but they have also worked with and integrated characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, cars licensed from Ferrari, and included a character based on soccer star Neymar. But their next event may feature the biggest name of them all.
According to Epic Games, Fortnite‘s Rift Tour will be bringing Ariana Grande into the game for a virtual concert. There will be five shows held between August 6 and August 8, and before the concert there will be several Fortnite “experiences” paired with Ariana Grande’s songs. In addition, players can purchase the Ariana Grande Outfit and Piggy Smallz Back Bling as part of the Ariana Grande Icon Series. There will also be in-game quests that run through the end of the concert tour, with custom rewards. Finally, players who attend the concert will get a Cuddly Cloudcruiser commemorative Umbrella.
As Fortnite has become more and more intertwined with popular culture, the gameplay has begun to take a backseat to massive events. However, players in Fortnite are still clearly having a great time and are using the new content to its fullest. Recently, one player managed to fly one of Fortnite‘s new Ferraris across the entire map. It seems so quaint that a game that was once predominantly about building forts for protection and shooting enemies has morphed into an entity complete with flying cars and Batman.
Still, it’s unlikely that these sorts of collaborations will ever stop, given how successful and profitable they are. Despite being free to attend, Travis Scott reportedly earned $20 million from his Fortnite concert back in 2020. By drawing players back to the game, Fortnite continues to retain its status as a pop-culture staple, thanks in large part to partnerships with artists like Ariana Grande.
