GMC Preparing A Sierra AT4X Equivalent To The Silverado ZR2 Bison

General Motors’ cooperation with American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) will be expanding to GMC models, such as the Sierra 1500 AT4X, and it will be sharing the same upgrades that are bound for the Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 Bison. A group of these vehicles were recently spotted alongside a prototype of Chevy’s upcoming Silverado ZR2 Bison, covered in camouflage. Accompanying it was a similarly disguised and similarly equipped GMC Sierra AT4X prototype.

Seeing an extra-rugged Sierra AT4X alongside the Silverado ZR2 Bison prototype with the exact upgrades and disguise indicates that Chevrolet is no longer the only brand that will receive goodies from American Expedition Vehicles. Another extreme GMC Sierra AT4X prototype was also spotted on its own, and this one clearly shows a proper high clearance front bumper as opposed to the low-hanging one on the standard AT4X. Additionally, a stout front skid plate is visible. It could likely be the same stamped boron steel one found on the Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison, which should provide plenty of protection along with the improved front clearance.

The new bumper will pave the way for larger tires to be equipped onto the truck; it’s hard to say precisely what kind of tires, but they could be at least as tall as the standard ZR2’s 33-inch rubber, but it’s also rumored that it could feature new 35-inch versions of the Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT. In addition, the Silverado ZR2 Bison and the AEV Sierra AT4X are expected to have the same Multimatic DSSV dampers as the standard ZR2 and AT4X models.

In 2018, the Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison first debuted, marking the start of the AEV/Chevrolet collaborations. When the Silverado ZR2 Bison announcement was made, the partnership was further cemented. Still, until these recent sightings, it was assumed that AEV was strictly partnered with Chevrolet, but there’s always room for expansion, especially when you have a good thing going. It’s also likely that we could be seeing a GMC Canyon AT4X with the AEV treatment in the future, possibly alongside the next-generation Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison.
