Being a DOT Class 2B truck, General Motors doesn’t have to legally disclose the range of the Hummer EV if they don’t want to. But they want to. And today, that number becomes official. The 2022 Hummer EV Edition 1 range is estimated by the EPA at 329 miles, beating the Rivian R1T, as well as the anticipated range of the Ford F-150 Lightning.
Why isn’t it, say an even 350 miles? It could be because the Hummer EV Edition 1 comes with the Extreme Off-Road Package, which adds the extra weight of full underbody skid plates, rocker panels, as well as the added rolling resistance from top-of-the-line tires: the Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT, coming in at 35 inches in diameter. If customers so choose, they can apply 37-inch tires without any compromise to the integrated air suspension, further maximizing the off-road capabilities of the all-electric Hummer.
2022 GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 Max Payload, Towing
In addition to the Hummer EV Edition 1 range announcement, GMC Vice President Duncan Aldred also disclosed payload and towing figures for the truck. The 2022 GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 payload comes in at 1,300 pounds, while towing comes in at 7,000 pounds. Those are about the figures of a GMC Canyon midsize truck, but we’re told these numbers are coming in as “conservative” and future variants are expected to provide more capability in this space.
But payload and towing aren’t meant to grab the headlines for the new Hummer EV Edition 1. Instead, we see absurdly quick levels of performance, with this 9,000 pound truck capable of rocking from 0-60 in a scant 3.0 seconds in WTF Mode. That’s good enough to walk a 650 horsepower Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 by more than half a second. Like we said, absurd.
Though the official GMC website, customers could reserve the Hummer EV Edition 1, which starts at $112,595 USD. Coming with all of the bells and whistles, there aren’t many add-ons for this fully loaded electric pickup truck. However, there are over 200 accessories to choose from, and GMC had quite a few of these on display during the 2021 SEMA Show earlier this month.
Beyond the Edition 1, other trim levels of the Hummer EV include the EV2 (priced at $79,995, available from Spring 2024), the Hummer EV2X (priced at $89,995, available from Spring 2023), and the Hummer EV3X (priced at $99,995, available Fall 2022).
The Hummer EV SUV will arrive in 2023 as a 2024 model year vehicle.
