Jeep Compass Sees An Update For 2022 To Fight Ford Bronco Sport

Jeep has obviously recognized the Ford Bronco Sport’s prowess in the compact crossover SUV market. Even though the Jeep Wrangler still has the significant upper hand over the body-on-frame Ford Bronco in the SUV segment, the Bronco Sport has proven it can hold its own. Back in March, Ford even gave the green light to its dealers to sell their Bronco Sport demo cars in effort to meet surging demand, voiding the usual wait time and mileage requirements. With that being said, the 2022 Jeep Compass debuted this week at the Chicago Auto Show with a refreshed design and a host of new and updated features, ready to take a fresh fight to the new Ford Bronco Sport.

2022 Jeep Compass Trims And Pricing

The best part about the Ford Bronco Sport lineup is that every trim comes standard with AWD. That’s probably why Jeep has revamped their 2022 Jeep Compass lineup to add an additional model that comes standard with 4×4 capabilities alongside the Trailhawk and Limited trims, the new Compass Latitude LUX. Like the 2021 model year lineup, models like the Compass Sport and Compass Latitude can be optioned with AWD at an extra $1,500. The 2022 Jeep Compass starting prices and their drivetrain configurations are shown below.

Excluding the $1,495 destination and delivery fee:

Sport – 4×2: $24,995 / 4×4: $26,495
Latitude – 4×2: $26,525 / 4×4: $28,025
Latitude LUX – 4×4: $29,595
Trailhawk – 4×4: $31,395
Limited – 4×4: $31,395

Ford Bronco Sport Price Comparison

The prices for the 2022 Compass are comparable to the current Bronco Sport lineup. Also excluding the destination and delivery fee of $1,495, the Bronco Sport base starts at $27,215, followed by Big Bend ($28,720), Outer Banks ($32,860), Badlands ($33,360), and First Edition ($38,160). Jeep has managed to keep prices for their compact crossover SUV substantially lower than Ford’s, even after the Bronco Sport’s price hike earlier this year.

New Jeep Compass Features

Stellantis says the 2022 Jeep Compass’ new interior design doubles in storage capacity and comes with a new 10.1-inch Uconnect 5 center stack display. All Compass trims receive Full-speed Collision Warning with active brake and pedestrian/cyclist detection, active lane management with LaneSense Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keep Assist, and blind-spot monitoring with Rear Cross Path detection. Exterior styling updates are noticeable on the face-lifted front fascia design alongside thinner LED headlamps. The Compass’ suspension and steering have also been revised for a smoother, better handling driving experience.

The 2022 Compass doesn’t get anything new under the hood; it retains the 180 horsepower 2.4L MultiAir I4. Unfortunately if you’re still waiting for the hybrid version of the Jeep Compass, the 4xe version is currently only available in Europe. Maybe that can be your excuse to go ahead and get a Wrangler 4xe.
