John Travolta Lists Maine Mansion Where Family Hosted Holidays

John Travolta has listed the family mansion where he and late wife Kelly Preston would host their entire family for holidays and private getaways. The secluded estate sits on a ferry-accessed island in Islesboro, Maine and is now on the market for $5 million. The Travoltas have owned the property since 1991 when they were first married.

John and Kelly purchased the home after visiting friend and fellow Scientologist Kirstie Alley, who owned a property on the south edge of the island. They had two months to quickly design and furnish the home before hosting their first Christmas with both extended families. The Travoltas chose an all-white motif and spent sleepless nights preparing the nearly 11,000-square-foot home for a five-star stay.

After a few years, the couple called in classically-trained interior designer, Christopher B. Boshears, to breathe new life into the home and introduce color into its finishes. With that same English country aura, the listing showcases a bright pastel color pallet and mixed textiles in a format with plenty of seating for family and guests.

The 42-room manse somehow still feels like a cozy English cottage that can sleep 50 comfortably. More than 20 bedrooms and 7.5 bathrooms are spread over three floors with two sun porches. The third floor was transformed into a fairytale for children with a library, diner, theater, stage and four themed bedrooms.

Surrounded on all sides by lush forestry, the property includes water frontage and a deep water dock that stretches out into Sabbathday Bay. There’s also a pool and a carriage house on the property.
