It is billed as the “ultimate private superyacht” and also the “world’s largest private residence yacht”. Meet the M/Y Njord which is one of the largest superyachts ever made and promises to be the ultimate luxury travel home. In essence, it is a superyacht with no less than 117 private luxury residences onboard along with numerous amenities and luxuries reminiscent of a mobile luxury hotel. It will be the only residential yacht to offer 14 duplex and two triplex residences with private elevators while there would be walk-in cellars, cheese rooms, humidors, safe room, private gym, and more. It is no less than a 293-meter private luxury mansion on move and there would be bespoke luxury experiences taking into account the yacht’s trajectory.
There are some big names that have been roped into the design process with interior designer Jean-Michel Gathy working with Francesca Muzio of FM Architettura for the interiors while Espen Øino Espen Øino International, will lead the overall exterior design.
Born in Belgium, Gathy has spent much of his adult life-based in Asia. After founding his architecture and design studio, in 1983, he has gone on to become one of the biggest names for innovative and forward-thinking designs for leading luxury hotels around the world.
Gathy will work on portraying his signature style and designs across decks 10 – 13 and alongside several of the top residences and Penthouses on M/Y Njord. There would be customizations for the residences along with the theme being “homely, comfortable, smart casual and exclusive yet contemporary”. The flagship residences will have a walk-in wine cellar, cheese room, humidor, safe room, private gym, sauna, steam, or any other facility which you may fancy.
Uniquely, there would be an entire “microcosm” onboard M/Y Njord as different places and cities like New York, Barcelona, Tokyo, Sydney, the Arctic, Rio, Panama, or the Amalfi Coast will have a different design showcasing the experiences and culture. Much thought has also been put into the communal areas which have an airy feeling along with lightness in their designs plus a sense of ease. Gathy has interacted with Njord residents to bring uniformity with the shapes, sizes, and various textures.
Also intriguing is the thought which has gone into designing the various decks with deck 10 having health specialist Chenot having an extensive health and wellness program. Their services include transformative wellbeing treatments, individually tailored holistic routines, and preventative therapies, all based on the Chenot Method.
Other than that M/Y Njord will have a fully equipped and professionally staffed medicinal center. There is also a marina, a yacht and sailing club, an expedition and dive center, and various watercraft including submersibles. Additionally, there is a professional-standard oceanographic research laboratory and a gyroscopic telescope housed in the top deck observatory.
The mega yacht can also accommodate up to two 8-seater twin-engine helicopters and four purpose-built luxury Riva-style tenders. To add to these assets, there will be a high-speed satellite communication system, a range of sporting facilities including a fully equipped golf center, pools, a state-of-the-art gym, an arts and craft studio, a library, a business center, a chef’s kitchen, and a theatre. Furthermore, there are six restaurants, a gourmet market, and a culinary studio.
However, there is more to the Njord than just all that as it takes the role of a competent explorer vessel with an oceanographic research laboratory having equipment along with expert scientists who will monitor the sea and conditions around it. Each year it will be going to some of the most remote places and gather environmental data which would be available to research laboratories.
In short, it is the ultimate home-from-home experience and there is already strong demand for luxury residences onboard.
