Liam Neeson’s 2011 Movie Unknown Is Getting A Sequel Series At TNT

TNT is developing a sequel series for 2011’s Unknown, the action-thriller film starring Liam Neeson, with Neeson attached to executive produce.

A sequel series is in the works at TNT for Liam Neeson’s 2011 action-thriller, Unknown. Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (The Shallows, Jungle Cruise) and produced by Dark Castle Entertainment, Unknown was released to mixed reviews in February 2011 but enjoyed a box office gross of nearly $136 million on a $30 million budget. Oliver Butcher and Stephen Cornwell wrote the screenplay adapted from French author Didier Van Cauwelaert’s 2003 novel, Hors de moi (in English – Out of My Head).

Now, Deadline reports that Neeson and Collet-Serra will reunite to executive produce a one-hour drama series for TNT that will pick up after the events of the film. Neeson is not expected to reprise his role; instead, the series will focus on a new character who, like Neeson in the original, is “thrust into a mind-bending adventure full of twists and turns.” Collet-Serra, who has amassed an impressive resume over the past decade, will also direct.

Sean Finegan (Free Fall) is attached to both write the pilot and executive produce along with Neeson. Additional executive producers include showrunners, Karl Gajdusek (Stranger Things) and Speed Weed (Arrow), as well as Erik Olsen (The Dirt), Ethan Erwin, Alex Mace, and Hal Sadoff of Dark Castle Entertainment.

2011’s Unknown follows Dr. Martin Harris, played by Neeson, who is involved in a car accident and wakes up from a four-day coma to discover that his identity has been stolen and no one recognizes him, not even his wife. As he attempts to reclaim his life, he finds himself entangled in an increasingly complex terrorist plot. In addition to Neeson, the film stars Diane Kruger, January Jones, Aidan Quinn, and Frank Langella.
