WASHINGTON — Jorge Alfaro knocked a pinch-hit RBI double in the 10th inning, as the Marlins snapped a four-game skid with a 3-1 win over the Nationals on Wednesday night at Nationals Park. Miami (41-55) concluded its second-half-opening road trip 2-5, and sits 10 1/2 games back in the National League East standings.
Miguel Rojas added an insurance run off Washington closer Brad Hand with a sacrifice fly to support Yimi García, who worked a scoreless 10th. In his previous outing on Sunday in Philadelphia, García surrendered a walk-off homer to J.T. Realmuto in the 10th inning of a suspended game.
Starting in place of Sandy Alcantara (bereavement list) on Wednesday, rookie Nick Neidert went a career-high five innings, permitting one run on three hits and three walks with two strikeouts. Andrew Stevenson’s two-out RBI double to right in the fourth was his lone blemish. Miami’s first run came on Joe Panik’s run-scoring double-play ball in the top of the inning.
