The remarks came shortly after Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut targeted Rane, saying that some “newcomers” in the BJP have spoiled the relationship between the two parties.
Earlier today, Rane said he knows a lot of things about Shiv Sena since he worked with the party for several decades, and threatened to bring out cases against its leaders “step by step”.
Without taking anybody’s name, the Union minister said he knew who had asked whom to throw acid on their brother’s wife.
“I have worked with them for 39 years, I know a lot of things. I know who asked whom to throw acid on his own brother’s wife. What kind of ‘sanskar’ is it?” the BJP leader said on Friday.
In a veiled attack on Uddhav, Rane said, “What did one achieve by arresting a Union minister? I will bring out cases step by step.”
“A Sena boy – Varun Sardesai – had come outside my home (in Mumbai) and threatened me. If he comes next time, he won’t go back,” the former Maharashtra chief minister added.
Rane was recently arrested and later released on bail amid a major controversy over his remarks against Uddhav. Lashing at out Thackeray’s ignorance of the year of India’s independence, Rane had said he would have “slapped” the Maharashtra chief minister had he been around.
With his remarks kicking up a major political storm on the state, the Shiv Sena staged a series of protests demanding Rane’s arrest.
‘What kind of person has BJP appointed’
Stepping up attack on Rane, Raut on Friday likened the BJP leader to “Bangladeshi and Pakistani infiltrators, who disturb India’s social harmony”.
“BJP and Shiv Sena had difference of opinion over some issues, but our relationship never turned bitter. The leaders, who joined the BJP in the last few years, have spoiled the relationship between the two parties. Their notoriety is similar to that of Bangladeshi and Pakistani infiltrators, who disturb our social harmony here (in India),” he said.
“We (Sena and BJP) never attacked each other or did not have such bitter relationship. The way Narayan Rane is acting, he is displaying animosity. What kind of person the BJP has appointed to improve our relationship,” Raut said sarcastically.
The Shiv Sena has worked with the BJP for 25 years, he added.
Hitting back at Raut’s remarks later, Rane said the Sena leaders “speaks without any sense”.
Rane, who started off his political career as a Shiv Sena worker, became the state CM in 1999. However, in 2005, he was expelled from the Sena for “anti-party activities”. After that he joined the Congress and stayed there till 2017.
After quitting the Congress, he launched the Maharashtra Swabhiman Paksha in October 2017. In 2018, he declared support for the BJP and was elected to the Rajya Sabha on that party’s nomination. In October 2019, he merged his party with the BJP. He was made the Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) last month in the cabinet reshuffle.
