Supermarkets will be open for fewer hours, opening later and closing earlier on New Year’s Day and New Year’s Eve, so plan your visit accordingly. Here are Lidl, Aldi and Sainsbury’s opening hours.

Many supermarkets across the UK will be reducing their opening hours this New Year’s weekend.

Hard-working supermarket staff will get some rest on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

As New Year’s Day falls on a Saturday this year, Monday, January 3 will also be a bank holiday.

Make sure you check online before venturing out to your local shop to avoid disappointment.

What time will Lidl be open on New Year’s Day?

On New Year’s Eve, Lidl will also be shutting up shop earlier than usual, with many stores closing at 8pm.

Make sure to check your local store using Lidl’s online store checker, but many branches of Lidl will be opening from 10am to 7pm on New Year’s Day.

What time will Aldi be open on New Year’s Day?

Aldi stores across the UK are closing their doors early on New Year’s Eve, closing at 6pm.

On New Year’s Day, Aldi will be closed to customers.

Aldi will open doors again on January 2, following opening hours of 9.30am to 4pm.

In Scotland, Aldi will also be closed on New Year’s Day, but on January 2 will open from 9am to 8pm.

Aldi will also be reducing their shopping hours on January 3, opening from 8am to 8pm.

In Scotland, Aldi stores will open from 8am to 10pm on Monday, January 3.

What time does Sainsbury’s open on New Year’s Day?

Make sure to use the online store locator tool to check the times for your local Sainsbury’s, as opening times will differ from store to store.

Many Sainsbury’s will be closing at the earlier time of 7pm on New Year’s Eve, though some smaller Sainsbury’s local stores may be open until 9pm.

Opening hours for New Year’s Day may differ, but generally stores should open from 8am to 8pm.

On January 3, many stores will also be open fewer hours, from 8am to 8pm.

To avoid any wasted journeys, check online before heading out to your local Sainsbury’s.
