NFL Week 17: Picks and preview

Week 17 arrives with 24 teams still technically alive and in the playoff race. That number figures to take a significant drop this week, as there has already been significant separation in the NFC, where five teams have sewn up playoff berths. The AFC is far less settled, with only the Chiefs securely in, as their rout of Pittsburgh sewed up the AFC West and tightened their grip on the conference’s top seed. The NFC West is the only division in that conference up for grabs, but the Rams can clinch it with a win and an Arizona loss. Green Bay can clinch the conference’s top seed with a win and a Dallas loss being the simplest scenario. The Eagles and 49ers can both punch playoff tickets; if San Francisco wins and New Orleans loses, they’re in, while the Eagles need a win coupled with losses by the Vikings and Saints, among other scenarios. In the AFC, Kansas City will lock up the top seed with a win and a Tennessee loss, while Indianapolis can get into the postseason with a win. The rest of the conference? Well, there are simply too many moving parts to count. That won’t be the case come this time next week.

Point spreads are from, and are current as of 11 a.m. ET Thursday.
