Shazam! Fury of the Gods is currently filming and director David F. Sandberg decided to release a fun video teasing Levi’s new costume.
The director of Shazam!: Fury of the Gods has released a humorous video teasing the reveal of the film’s new costume. Shazam! was a box-office and critical success, and the studio moved quickly on announcing a sequel with the hopes of the film becoming one of the studio’s big tentpole franchises. Shazam: Fury of the Gods will find Billy Batson and his foster family fighting a slew of new villains including a set of sisters played by Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu, and Rachel Zegler.
Principal photography on the film started on May 26, 2021, in Atlanta, Georgia. Shazam!: Fury of the Gods is one of many DCEU films currently undergoing filming, which include The Batman, Black Adam, and The Flash. Photos of Zachary Levi in a new Shazam! costume already leaked online, and now it appears that the film’s director, in keeping with the film’s light-hearted comedic nature, decided to release a video to poke a little fun at the concept of costume reveals.
David F. Sanberg, who directed the original Shazam! and is also the director of Shazam!: Fury of the Gods, took to Twitter to release an exclusive video for the film. The video showcases the Shazam suit, lit in darkness, teasing a big reveal to be undercut by a joke of Zachary Levi asking if they can turn on a light. The caption for the video ‘coming soon…ish‘ implies it will be a bit of time until fans get anything major. Check out the video below:
Interestingly, the teaser video is lit and framed in a similar ominous shadowy reveal as the recent teaser photo of Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam. Black Adam is one of Shazam’s most iconic enemies, and the first film teased the character’s history within the DCEU. Black Adam is also currently undergoing filming in Atlanta, Georgia and given the nature of the two products being both DC films and the shared comic book history, there might be some tease of a crossover in the near future.
Shazam!: Fury of the Gods isn’t set to open in theaters until June 2, 2023, giving the filmmakers a little under two years until the release. Part of the reason for the filming is so the child actors don’t age out of their roles, but also with enough prep time, the studio could bump up the release of the film if another film is delayed. A trailer most likely won’t be released anytime soon, but with DC Fandome returning on October 16, 2021, there is a chance DC and Warner Bros. could release something more official there as they did by announcing the title for Shazam!: Fury of the Gods at the previous Fandome.
