The iPhone 11 and the Galaxy S9 are the most popular cellphones in their class, according to a new analysis of cellphone data by Cujo AI Labs, a department of network intelligence software company Cujo AI.

Researchers ranked the most popular iOS and Android devices based on an analysis of 1 billion connected devices throughout North America for 15 months beginning in January 2020.

The most popular iOS devices — based on their share of the connected-devices marketplace — are:

  1. iPhone 11: 14.07%
  2. iPhone XR: 10.23%
  3. iPhone 7: 6.3%
  4. iPhone 11 Pro Max: 5.3%
  5. iPhone 8: 4.94%

The most popular Android devices are:

  1. Galaxy S9: 2.7%
  2. Galaxy A10e: 2.61%
  3. Fire 7 (2019): 2.52%
  4. Galaxy A20: 2.12%
  5. Galaxy S10: 2.09%

In a report on the rankings, PhoneArena notes a fact that might surprise some people: There are more than twice as many iOS devices in active use in North America than Android devices in active use. The iOS devices include both iPhones and iPads.

Another eye-catching fact: Amazon’s Fire 7 tablet, a 7-inch model released in 2019, is North America’s third-most-popular Android device.
