The Ford F-150 Lightning Is Lightning Fast

Electric vehicles may not deliver the same levels of drama as their combustion-powered equivalents, but there’s something to be said about their sheer ability to accelerate. To be able to deliver 100 percent of torque at zero RPM, and to apply just about all of it to the ground with incredible precision. Indeed, EVs can be a special tool for special jobs. And they seem to be evolving quickly. Most recently, Ford CEO Jim Farley took to Twitter to post a video and give an update on just how quick the all-electric F-150 Lightning can be when equipped with the Extended Range Battery.

Ford F-150 Lightning 0-60 Acceleration Updates

The Ford F-150 Lightning is now officially quicker than the F-150 Raptor, capable of accelerating from 0-60 in just 4.0 seconds, a half-second faster than original estimates. The video is only four seconds long, which is enough to show the truck as it speeds past the camera. The standard range battery model does the same sprint in an almost-identical 4.1 seconds. The standard Ford F-150 Lightning features 462 hp and 775 lb-ft of torque, while the extended range model comes with 580 hp, and the same amount of torque.

0-60 in 4.0 is plenty quick, even eclipsing performance muscle cars like the Ford Mustang GT or Dodge Challenger Scat Pack. Yet it’s not even the fastest electric truck. Rivian R1T has a time of 3.3 seconds. And the Herculean Hummer EV can do it in 3.0-seconds with WTF Mode engaged.

Update: The 0-60mph speed for #F150Lightning w/ Extended Range Battery is now under 4.0 seconds. Lightning fast!⚡️🏁

This announcement can be seen as a counter-punch to GM’s recent electric truck announcements. Last week, the 2024 GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 made its official debut, while Chevrolet juiced up the estimated power numbers of the upcoming Silverado EV RST First Edition to 754 horsepower and 785 lb-ft of torque – the same as the GMC. Time will tell if General Motors can also cut the estimated 0-60 times as the Silverado EV and Sierra EV get closer to launch.
