The Suicide Squad Villain Starro Gets Giant Statue At Premiere

The Suicide Squad premiere was literally overshadowed by a towering statue of Starro, the main antagonist in the upcoming film.

A larger-than-life statue of The Suicide Squad’s villain, Starro, just invaded the movie’s premiere. The Suicide Squad is James Gunn’s newest upcoming addition to the DCEU and continues the adventures of Amanda Waller’s unique team of repurposed super-villains. The future of the world will yet again depend on the success of these unlikely heroes.

However, Gunn’s version of the story will not be a reboot or true sequel to DC’s Suicide Squad that was released in 2016. The similarly titled movies do share several characters like Margot Robbie, who is reprising her role as the eccentric villain, Harley Quinn. Nevertheless, aside from roles, there are no direct or referenced connections to David Ayer’s 2016 flick. The Suicide Squad will offer a new take on Waller’s crew and a villain that has never been seen before in a live-action format.

The sinister alien, Starro, will be terrorizing earth and A.R.G.U.S. agents. Audiences will have to wait to see the type of havoc he is able to wreak on the big screen, but apparently Starro has bigger plans than staying confined to theaters. The villain recently invaded the movie’s premiere in a way that was larger than life. A giant statue of Starro was erected at the red carpet event and was even able to impress Gunn who took to Instagram to express his admiration. Check out his post along with a video also shared by Gunn on Twitter, featuring the huge Starro statue below:

The alien’s realistic giant eyeball, large stature, and eerie coloring certainly captured the attention of those at the event. It is no wonder that Starro is known for captivating and controlling people’s minds. Even Gunn was moved to tears at the physical manifestation of his film’s antagonist, who he considers the movie’s perfect villain. The magnitude and detail of the statue also gives a clearer image of what audiences can expect to see in The Suicide Squad since the villain has only been animated up to this point.

Starro first appeared in comics back in 1960 and has subsequently been featured in various animated shows like Batman Beyond and DC’s Super Hero Girls. The alien has battled against some of DC’s most well-known superheroes since its debut against The Justice League. Telepathy, the ability to fly, superhuman strength, and regeneration are just a few of the abilities associated with the giant creature. Social media may now be able to admire the premiere’s awesome statue, but it won’t be long before Starro can be viewed on the big screen as well. The Suicide Squad will be released in theaters and on HBO Max starting August 6th.
